Malaysia’s newest singing darling, Indie artist Yuna who wooed the crowd with her beautiful, sexy voice similar to Corinne Bailey Rae’s. Fairly unknown by the rest of the population at first, she then gain widespread attention after her debut track from her demo, Dan Sebenarnya were played at one of the top radio stations in Malaysia. Soon after, majority of the radio stations began to play her song. She has officially become mainstream.

Truth to be, I actually don’t fancy Malaysia’s mainstream music, in fact I loath them. Most of the music are generically the same, mass produced by the recording labels while using the service of the same composer over and over again. Boring. That’s why Malaysians tend to listen to the influx of Indonesian singers and bands that are congesting Malaysia’s music scene and Radio airplays while raking big bucks from gullible bored Malaysians.

But, thank god this foreign influx has slowly decrease when Malaysia’s hidden gems began to surface more. Malaysia’s special hidden army, The Independent artists has arrive, bringing with them new different types of music which is still foreign amongst many Malaysians ear and just like McDonalds newest addition meals, it create an instant hit. Indie bands like Gerhana Ska Cinta, Bunkface and Yuna herself who brings with them music genres such as Ska, Punk Rock and Jazz/mellow. Actually, there’s a lot of underground artist bringing different musical genres such as Reggae but I just contend to describe this three only.
